Going through a course

Updated 25 Sept 2026

Seven journeys before this one describe buying, writing, versioning and assigning content. This is the first that shows somebody receiving it.

The screens here belong to a different part of Knowspread than the administration: the course player has its own colours, its own chrome and its own keyboard shortcuts. Do not expect the admin screens’ shapes.

Studium in the left rail is the learner’s side of the app.

The learner dashboard: one item to study, none completed, a course card for Bezpečnost na pracovišti with a ZAČÍT button, and a list of study plans available to join.
1234
One thing to study (1), none finished (2), the course itself (3), and plans you may join yourself (4). Open the screenshot larger
  • (1) Ke studiu counts what is waiting.
  • (2) Dokončené counts what you have finished.
  • (3) The card carries the kind (KURZ), the title, the state — Ještě nestudováno — and ZAČÍT.
  • (4) Dostupné studijní plány are plans you can add yourself, each with a plus. They read Nepřiřazeno until you do.

That self-service list is the switch Plán může být přidán studentem from building a plan, seen from the other side.

ZAČÍT leaves the administration behind for a full-screen player.

The course player before starting: the course title and description on the left, a card with 0 percent progress, Začít kurz and Opustit kurz on the right, and the lesson list in the right rail.
12345
Progress at nought (1), start (2) or leave (3), the lesson list (4), and the description the author wrote (5). Open the screenshot larger
  • (1) 0 % is your progress, repeated as Váš pokrok in the top bar.
  • (2) Začít kurz begins. → does the same.
  • (3) Opustit kurz returns to the administration and keeps your progress.
  • (4) Přehled lekcí lists the lessons and their steps, with 0/1 counting the steps you have finished. Materiály beside it holds the course’s attachments.
  • (5) The description is the one written in the editor — so what an author types there is what a learner reads before starting.

A lesson opens on its own intro, and its steps are in the right rail. Clicking a step opens it.

A step open in the player: its text fills the page, the bottom bar offers Zpět and Certifikát with an Enter hint, and the right rail shows the step still unticked.
1234
Which step you are on (1), back (2), forward (3), and the step still unticked in the rail (4). Open the screenshot larger
  • (1) The top bar names the step: Lekce 1.1 and its title.
  • (2) Zpět goes back a step. Its key is ←.
  • (3) The forward control carries its key inside the button. On an ordinary step it is → Ukončit krok, which marks the step done and moves on. On the last step of the course it is Enter Certifikát, because that is where forward leads. The course in the screenshot has a single step, so it shows the second case.
  • (4) The rail still shows the step unticked and 0/1: opening a step is not finishing it.

The step’s text is exactly what the author typed in the editor. Nothing is added, and nothing asks the learner to confirm having read it.

4. Finish, and read what you are asked to confirm

Section titled “4. Finish, and read what you are asked to confirm”

Forward from the last step lands on the course’s closing screen.

The closing screen: Dokončeno in the top bar, congratulations, a card with a personal declaration and a confirm button, a separate button to view the certificate without confirming, and green ticks in the rail.
12345
Already done (1), the declaration (2), confirm it (3) or skip it (4), and every step ticked (5). Open the screenshot larger
  • (1) The top bar already reads Dokončeno.
  • (2) A declaration: Potvrzuji, že jsem kurz absolvoval(a) osobně a problematice, která tvoří obsah kurzu, jsem porozuměl(a).
  • (3) Potvrdit a zobrazit certifikát answers it. Enter does the same.
  • (4) Zobrazit certifikát bez potvrzení gets the certificate without answering it.
  • (5) The rail shows 1/1 and green ticks.

The course counts as completed before the declaration is answered. The owner’s screens show it finished either way — see following completion, which was read at exactly this point, with the declaration still unanswered.

Anyone using Knowspread for compulsory training should know that: the completion record and the personal declaration are two different things, and only the first is required to get one.

The finished course: 100 percent, the completion date, and buttons to go back into the course or view the certificate.
1234
100 % (1), the day it happened (2), back into the course (3), and the certificate (4). Open the screenshot larger
  • (1) 100 % replaces the progress ring.
  • (2) The completion date stands under Dokončeno.
  • (3) Přejít do kurzu opens it again — a finished course stays readable.
  • (4) Zobrazit certifikát is still there, and → brings it up too. If you skipped the declaration, → takes you back to it.

Zobrazit certifikát downloads a file and opens a tab that says so: Certifikát byl stažen. Toto okno nyní můžete zavřít. The certificate is not a page you can bookmark. It is not pictured here because it carries the learner’s own name.

→ does not lead back into the course from this screen. Přejít do kurzu has no key, only the button.

The player can be used without a mouse. The keys work across the whole window, with no need to click anywhere first, and the bottom bar always shows what each key will do at that moment.

With video, audio and PDF the bottom bar changes with where you are in the content:

  • Space plays or pauses video and audio.
  • ← and → turn the pages of a PDF presentation. On the last page, → ends the step.
  • ↑ and ↓ scroll a PDF document.
  • For content embedded from another site (SCORM, for example) the bar says it can only be controlled inside the content itself.

In dialogs, Enter confirms the green button and Esc closes the dialog. Going through a test by keyboard is covered in passing a test.

On a display narrower than 1024 px the bottom bar shows no keys and offers ordinary buttons instead.

Does leaving the course lose my progress? No. Opustit kurz returns to the administration and the course keeps the steps you finished — its rail counts them.

Can I get the certificate without the declaration? Yes, by the second button. Whether the difference is recorded anywhere an owner can see is not established here.

What a test inside a course looks like, and what happens when one is failed, is passing a test; the authoring side is building a quiz.

Next: following completion, the same events read from the owner’s side. For the learner screens as a reference, see your learning.
